Saul Alexander Gallery Art Exhibit

Charleston resident John Van Dalen will exhibit black and white photographs titled "Images of the Rural South: 1973-1982" during the month of May in the Saul Alexander Gallery at the Charleston County Main Library, 68 Calhoun St. The photographs document vanishing examples of old barns, houses and main street architecture of small towns in the Midlands and Piedmont areas of South Carolina.

James Harris will display his handmade wood items created by a process called woodturning. Items on display will include bowls, vases, candlesticks, pens and pencils.

During the month of May, patrons between the ages of 9 and 18 can drop their gently used books off at the library. For each book brought to the library, participants will receive one ticket that can be redeemed for a new-to-you book on Saturday, June 7.

Yo Art Project

The Palmetto Project presents an exhibition of photo works and posters by kids ages 6 – 15 from the Meeting Street Manor and Bridgeview Public Housing Residence. These photos and posters illustrate the children’s individual creativity as well as their insight into their community. There will be a reception Sunday, May 18 from 3 – 5 p.m. with refreshments and a multimedia presentation. The Yo Art Project is a facet of Palmetto Project programs and is presented in partnership with the City of Charleston Housing Authority, the Charleston Recreation Department, the City of Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Charleston County Main Library.
